Hand Illustration

Split Shank Diamond Ring Sketch

Split Shank Diamond Ring Sketch

Often, there is a question between drawing a design or idea in CAD or by hand.  When given certain parameters, such as stone sizes, a finger size, and an overall feel, a hand illustration can be created more readily than a CAD model.  In order to proceed further in CAD, nothing must be left to the imagination.  We build CAD models with precision the naked eye cannot detect, but in some cases the design must flow around the focus (in this case, a 2 carat diamond).  For this client, a hand illustration was created at a fraction of the time and cost of CAD, allowing the design to be approved and carved by hand.  During the wax carving process, there were design considerations that demanded our background in sculpture and design visualization.  We believe a sketch in “perspective” on paper (similar to the shown), represents our understanding of the design 3-dimensionally, and, therefore, our ability to create a work equally as exciting for the finger.
